Meet Steven
Steven (he/him) joined Jory MHC in 2022 and provides support for teens and adults up to age 35. Steven has extensive experience working in middle and high school settings, supporting adolescents and families navigating mental health challenges in school settings. Steven offers an empathetic and non-judgmental space to share and feel heard.
Steven works with people wanting the focus on the following topics in therapy:
Abuse, ADHD / attention struggles, Adjustment + Transitions, Anger Management, Adoption Process, Political Climate, Anxiety, Childhood + Adolescent Issues, Depression, PTSD and Trauma Healing, Relational Conflict, and Self Esteem + Worth.
Steven’s collaborative approach to helping begins with establishing a therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, non-judgment, empathy, and validation. As the therapeutic relationship strengthens, Steven works with clients to unpack the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behavior, to build more perspective on ways to grow. Along with setting concrete therapeutic goals, Steven also identify skills to assist in increasing distress tolerance, emotional regulation, strengthening interpersonal effectiveness skills, and practicing staying in the present moment.
As a Korean-American, adopted individual, Steven brings attention to identity development centered in race and ethnicity for BIPOC clients navigating experiences with racism and discrimination. Growing up and living in the Portland Metro area the majority of his life, Steven values addressing the impact of oppression and oppressive systems that often intersect with many aspects of identity and identity development for teens and adults.
