Meet Veronica
Veronica (she/her) joined Jory MHC in 2022 to support young people through creative and effective interventions. Veronica is great at connecting with tweens, teens, young adults, and their families by offering a caring relationship focused on emotion regulation, problem solving, and skill building. She has experience working with youth and adults in schools, crisis support, the child welfare system, outpatient therapy, and community outreach. Veronica works with young people in middle school, high school, and young adults in their 20s.
Veronica works with young people wanting the focus on the following topics in therapy:
ADHD / attention struggles, Adjustment + Transitions, Anger Management, Anxiety, Childhood + Adolescent Issues, Cultural + Systemic Oppression, Depression, PTSD, Racial Identity, and Self Esteem + Worth.
Veronica strives to use a systems-based approach in therapy, working with young people through the context of the many systems they interact with; she focuses on how to support clients in their healthy engagement with the world around them. Veronica is relational therapist and is passionate about creating safe and supportive spaces for young people to work through life's difficulties and learn about themselves in the process. By emphasizing a blend of Collaborative Problem Solving, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy in supporting clients, Veronica helps them meet their goals and improve overall emotional well-being, self-expression, school experiences, and relationships.
As a Mexican-American woman, Veronica values the opportunity to connect with, advocate for, and support BIPOC youth and young adults in receiving informed and effective healthcare. Representation in providers can make a huge difference. When BIPOC youth see someone who shares their cultural background and experiences, it can create a sense of safety and understanding that's hard to replicate otherwise. Veronica’s ability to validate client experiences and struggles from personal understanding can empower clients to share more openly and freely in therapy.
Veronica is has completed additional training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), offering specialized support designed to help teens and young adults manage emotions and mood more effectively through times of change and transition. DBT is a structured, evidence-based therapy that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices.
How DBT Helps:
Emotional Regulation: Teaches skills to manage and navigate intense emotions.
Mindfulness: Enhances awareness and acceptance of the present moment.
Interpersonal Effectiveness: Improves communication and relationships.
Distress Tolerance: Provides strategies to handle crises without making things worse.
Veronica utilizes DBT to empower individuals with practical tools to lead a more balanced, fulfilling life. DBT therapy provides support for emotional challenges, while also creating opportunities for more stability and growth.
Outside of her work as a therapist, Veronica likes spending time with friends and family, biking, being crafty, going on adventures with her dog, and exploring her neighborhood.
