Meet Valenca

Valenca (she/her) joined Jory MHC in 2023 and specifically trained as Grief and Loss therapist. Valenca works with adults who have experienced all types of grief and loss and has facilitated grief groups for over a decade.

Valenca’s approach to therapy is deeply rooted in existential-humanistic principles, providing a safe and collaborative environment for individuals seeking transformation and rebirth. Valenca views clients' experiences through a grief-informed lens, embracing a perspective that acknowledges the interconnectedness of emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. Within this relational space, Valenca’s goal is to guide individuals towards personal transformation and help them discover their unique path to restoring balance and finding meaning in life. As a Mexican-American woman, Valenca finds deep connection in providing a safe space for all identities. Valenca understands grief in the deepest of ways, both personally and professionally.

Valenca works with people wanting the focus on the following topics in therapy:

Grief + Loss, Death Anxiety, Existential Angst, Cultural Oppression, Intergenerational Trauma, Ambiguous + Disenfranchised Loss, Adjustment + Transitions, Depression, Identity Development, and PTSD and Trauma Healing.

Valenca also has extensive experience in training providers and teams about the experiences of grief and loss and is available for consultations around grief and projects or trainings around the topics of loss, death anxiety, transitions, and grief.

Valenca has lived in Portland for over 20 years and feels at home nestled between Mt. Hood and the Pacific Ocean. In her free time, Valenca loves road trips up and down the West Coast, camping among the trees, exploring new places, creative and artistic pursuits, and spending time with her beautiful children.

“I never take therapy lightly - it is a huge honor to sit alongside my clients as they process their grief and trauma stories. I love being able to provide validation to others who feel alone in their grief and pain and I values providing an authentic space for transformation and healing.”
